I have been making it a point lately to write down my dreams, or at least as much of them as I can remember when I wake up. I have never sought understanding of what they might mean. And I don't write them done now to try and understand them. But there have been some doozies lately. It is an effort to try and draw out some of the imagery that I see in that less than awake place.
I have been doing this exercise for roughly a month now. Granted I don't always remember the dreams. But I do find that the more I do the exercise, I am able to capture more details.
One of my favorite dreams recently involved a zombie attack. In the dream they were held at bay by walls made of bars, similar to old school jail cell walls. Another aspect of this dream was a zombie hunting weapon. Picture a crossbow that used a pod instead of a single bolts. When fired this pod would explode into a large number of bolts impaling a block of the walking dead.
This dream came when I haven't been watching any kind of zombie shows or movies. It can be interesting where our minds take us at times.
Have you ever explored your dreams? Any interesting dreams that stuck with you after waking?
Indeed it can. Dream images are metaphors that can have many meaning such as a need to protect yourself from a negative situation by closing yourself off from others. I hope your able to remember more and try to decipher what your mind is trying the tell you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am looking for the stories more than I am looking for meaning. It can be an interesting way to find material that can be turned into something else.
DeleteExcellent word bro. Think I'm gonna give it a try. Gonna be tough, considering I have ADHD. We'll see...he he...
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, I am quite intrigued.
I know that feeling well, which is why I am annoyed I lost the one I had this morning. Everytime I remembered I got distracted before I could write this one down.
DeleteIt is all a learning process. So don't sweat it when you miss some.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have had dreams that could be movies...in fact I told my parents when I was much younger that a marquee maybe spelled wrong....runs across my forehead when I wake up! Ha Ha Kids....
Write them down as soon as you can! Everything has a meaning, and it just might make for an interesting book!! Good wishes with your work....you sound very creative!
Marquees on children's forheads might help their parents better understand them.
DeleteI don't remember too many of my dreams. Maybe it's because I usually only get six hours of sleep a night. Dreams that I do remember are anxiety related ones. I had a really weird one few months after moving that reflected my uncertainty on many matters. When I used to wait tables, I would have panic-filled dreams that my tables' food was sitting in the window dying and I couldn't get it out on time. Or, even to this day, I might have a random dream about forgetting to take somebody's milk to their table.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was working in kitchens regularly, the food in the window dream and others like it were common. But then working in a restaurant and all its stress you have time to think of little else.
DeleteOur dreams are so ephemeral we lose them so easily when we are in the waking world.
Oh goodness, I too have been having some doozies. It is normal for me to try to think what my subconscious is telling me, but lately, I just haven't begun to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteZombies--nice. I have dreams often about the end of the world. Those are quite stressful.
Wanna share my zombies? At least you get to shoot them with crossbows.
DeleteI began writing my dreams down at fifteen. Since then, I have had frequent zombie dreams. After a while, they became lucid and now they no longer scare me. Have had some pretty scary ones though. One involved a dismembered head in my washing machine. Couldn't sleep the rest of the night. Still not sure what it means.
ReplyDeleteSometimes those are the best ones. I had one once about a bipedal alligator creature, I ended up searching my house with a club making sure it wasn't really there.
DeleteIt is the ones that come out as so incredibly real that stay with you.
