Bits and Pieces

The idea behind this space is to talk about my writing life.  This is a space where from time to time I will share something from the different spaces I have written from as well as thoughts and such as I run across them.  Keep in mind the stuff I post here is more than likely something I will pursue no further or something I will be doing little to no work on.  We may find gems with short stories or a mood piece or two.  Or it might end up being some odd random thing that I threw out there to get it out of my head.

I was looking for something today to share.  I had a piece in mind but I ran across something else that seemed a bit more fitting for the moment.  Jeri from from What do I Know brought to mind something I have never heard of before (I feel so uneducated).  She recently mentioned a style of writing called the crot (that is such a great word).  The idea is to create a mood or a feeling through prose.  It is similar to concrete poetry where you create a picture on the paper of the thing the poem is about (picture a poem of an apple that looks like an apple).

Leap of Faith

She took a leap of faith.  It took all she had inside.  She felt like a tornado had run rampant through her soul.  Well, maybe not.  It was more like the calm after the twister.  She was lost in the aftermath of her broken life.  She took a leap of faith.  She stood up and started again.  After he left she stepped into the darkness but now she was coming into the light.  She took a leap of faith.  She registered with school again.  How many years had it been?  Her credits were still good; she only needed a bit of refreshers.  She felt so old, so out of touch.  The instructor Dan, could not have been much older than half her age.  When he smiled, feelings she had not felt in years flooded her.  Watching him, she felt young and vibrant again.  She wanted to do something crazy, something so unlike who she had become.  Her friends kept trying to get her to go to the club.  So unlike her, so different, enticing.  She took a leap of faith.  There had to be something out there for her, she just wasn’t sure what.  Dan convinced her to go sky diving.  She was terrified but still she jumped.  Together they hurtled toward the waiting earth below.  She took a leap of faith.  Parachutes do exist in life.  Life goes on.  She took a leap of faith.

  2. This is very nice done. Don't we all need to take a leap of faith at times?

  3. So much of what we do in life is a leap of faith. I saw a post on FB the other day about Ringo Star (Beatles drummer). It quoted him as saying that he didn't know how to play the drums when he started with his first band. He just joined bands and started playing until one day he was good...or should I say great at it.
